The gallery is pleased to present a selection of prints by some of South Africa’s most prominent artists and print makers. The exhibition also introduces for the first time, prints by Andreas Schönfeldt.

Willem Boshoff, (b.1951-)

Willem Boshoff is perhaps one of South Africa’s foremost conceptual artists, known primarily for his work with words – whether these take the form of, what appears to be, just doodles on paper to massive installation works of words engraved on giant rocks. His works is shown at major galleries in South Africa and overseas, a few recent highlights include:

Pat Mautloa, (b.1952-)

Kagiso Pat Mautloa is one of the foremost abstract artists who were trained at the infamous Rorke’s Drift artist studios (also known as the Evangelical Lutheran Church Art and Craft Centre) during the seventies. He is also one of the founding members of the Bag Factory Artist’s Studios in downtown Johannesburg. His work encompasses painting, installation, sculpture, drawing and printmaking. His work is widely collected and included in major exhibitions nationwide. A few recent exhibition highlights include:

William Kentridge, (b.1955-)

Probably South Africa’s most famous artist, William Kentridge is known for his prints, drawings and, more recently, installations of video projections, moving sculptures and soundscapes. His work is collected and exhibited by major museums and institutions the world over. Examples of recent exhibitions include:

Diane Victor (b.1964-)

Diane Victor is a well-known printmaker and drawing artist. She is famous for her smoke drawings whereby she creates drawings on paper or glass panels with a candle. She was the second artist to have exhibited in the Collector’s Room at Fried Contemporary. She spent the day in situ to create a new series of smoke drawings. The gallery has produced a print publication of her exhibition in the Collector’s Room featuring an interview about her work. Please contact the gallery for more information, or to purchase a copy. Andreas Schönfeldt (b.1950-)

Probably one of the best-kept secrets and undiscovered treasures of Pretoria’s conceptual artists, Andreas Schönfeldt works mostly in the mediums of printmaking and video installation. Exhibitions and highlights include:
