Fried Contemporary is pleased to welcome Berco Wilsenach (b 1974) to the Collectors Room. His exhibition opening coincides with the opening of Abrie Fourie’s “Oblique: the so-called fruits of life”. Wilsenach presently lives and works in Pretoria.

 

South African artist, Wilsenach (b.1974) completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria in 1996. In 1997 he interned at the Collezione Peggy Guggenheim in Venice, Italy. In 2002 he completed a Master’s Degree at the University of Pretoria, and graduated Cum Laude. During 2003-2004 he studied at the Academia di Belle Arte in Genoa with a bursary from the Italian government; and in 2005-2006 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with a grant from the Deutsche Akademische Austausch Dienst. He has won numerous awards – the PPC Young Sculpture of the Year (1997), Absa L’Atelier (2005) and residencies at Le Arie del Tempo in Genoa.

Wilsenach has participated in various group exhibitions in South Africa and Europe and had solo shows at the Pretoria Art Museum (2000), Pretoria Culture and Heritage Museum (2001) and Palazzo Ducale in Genoa (2004). Wilsenach participated in a group show in March at the Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna and took up residence at the Cité d’Arte in Paris from July-December 2006.
